Services

Services emphasises the College's links to the local community and beyond. Students join one of the services that are currently run at the college. They learn necessary skills during the first year, and in their second year they are expected to lead their respective programmes.

Community Outreach
Members of the community outreach programme work on a variety of projects with the local community. These include:

  • Football with the mentally challenged
  • Visiting elderly people in the old peoples home
  • Organising activities for children in Flekke
  • Working with youth groups in Dale
  • Visiting families from Afghanistan
  • Supporting asylum seekers at Bergum Mottak
  • Working with children in Førde hospital

Computer Service
There are two main purposes for this College Committment;

  • helping to maintain and develop the College web sites
  • helping to maintain the College's computer systems
Neither require previous expertise, though obviously an interest in computers is essential and any previous experience will be useful. Students are expected to work on their own with a minimum of supervision, and as part of a team.

Environment Service ( SerEn )
The main purpose of this service is to promote environmental awareness and actions of caring for the Nature and/or Environment on all levels through:
drawing people's attention to other-then-human inhabitants of natural environment and providing information about these.
providing information about local and global environmental issues, events and actions
trying to establish links with local and global environmental organizations and taking part in their actions
SOME of our CONCRETE ACTIONS
  Exploring and taking photos of other-then-human inhabitants and features of local environment and making a data base
  Repairing, restoring (draining) and marking the hill and mountain paths nearby
  Monitoring the fluctuations of oxygen, salinity and temperature in the fjord
  Oromoting Reducing/ Recycling/ Reusing of waste in College and elsewhere and organize clean ups
  Organizing Earth Day and other events with focus on environment
  Creating the College's Nature Web Site and Brochure

Global Concerns/World Today Service
The members of Global Concerns/World Today Service are involved in organising monthly Global Concerns day and weekly World Today presentations. During a Global Concerns day, there may be a presentation by an external speaker, a panel discussion and a workshop all exploring one global issue. In the past Global Concerns have concentrated on issues such as environment, poverty, and HIV/AIDS.
World Today presentations may be given by an outside speaker or by a member of the College community. A presentation gives an insight into a current regional/global issue in the world.

Haugland Rehabilitation Service
The students will go through a programme during the first term where they will get to know the various departments and activities that are running at the centre. They should also be introduced to the underlying philosophy of the centre.
During the next three terms the students choose an area of specialisation, where they take responsibility. Currently they join in with these departments:

  • Crafts
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapy
  • Sports (Including Kayaking& climbing)
During the second term students from the Haugland Service spend a week in Beitostølen helping competitors at the Ridderrennet, a skiing competition for disabled participants. (Read more about Haugland Rehabilitation Service...)

Human Rights Campaigning Service
This service co-ordinates a variety of local and international human rights initiatives such as:

  • Amnesty International urgent letter-writing
  • Youth Against Aids
  • Walkathon
  • Womens week
  • Fair trade
  • RCNUWC-Dale project
The service additionally empowers its members through the sharing of knowledge of current human rights concerns.

Performing Arts Service
The Performing Arts Service exists to create and develop shows and performances to be presented to the outside world. These shows hope to represent the uniqueness of RCNUWC and its cultures through dance, music and theatre.

Students may be involved in anything from stage management, lighting, make-up, sound, writing, performing (singing, playing, dancing, acting) or any combination. By building and developing performances together, students will learn to be responsible and to work as part of a team. (Read more about Performing Arts Service...)

Student Council
Student Council is formed by democratically elected members of student body. Members of Student Council meet to discuss various issues related to the student body and the wider College community. Student Council also represents the interest of the student body in the running of the College, and members of the Council are present at the monthly Staff meetings.
