Facilities

The largest building on campus is the joint Auditorium and "Kantine" building which houses a theatre seating 240, the college library, and a spectacular dining area overlooking the fjord. In addition to an administration building and classroom space, the College facilities include well equipped science laboratories; a music room; art and ceramic studios; computer facilities; a library and a waterfront multi-purpose centre.  College students also run a small cafe in a restored traditional boathouse on the college grounds.

There are five student residences, each with a common room designed to create a comfortable living environment where students can share their varied intercultural experiences. There are five students in each residential room furnished in traditional Norwegian style and with its own washroom facilities. There is a central College laundry to accommodate student needs. The Rektor and all the teachers also live on campus with their families.

Haugland Rehabilitation Centre

Outdoors there are waterfront facilities with canoes, kayaks, sail and power boats. Walkways to adjacent islands complete a well developed waterfront of considerable beauty in the safe protected waters of the Fjord.
"Education is a great engine of personal development.  It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of a mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation."
Nelson Mandela.

Library

The library holds 5300 books. Most are in English, but other languages are represented, including Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, French, German, and Russian.  The collection includes materials relevant to the IB curriculum, but also includes books related to the the overall ideals and aims of the College, fiction, videos in different languages, and music.

The library subscribes to almost 50 periodicals and newspapers. Many reference CD-ROMs are available to students.

Computers

College IT equipment consists of a Computer Room with about twenty computer workstations connected to a central server and to the Internet.  A Media Room houses all the necessary equipment to produce the college magazine and yearbook, and various other facilities around the campus support digital music, internet design, language learning, etc.  Computers are intensively used during classes.  Science students collect their results through a computer interface and analyze them with computer generated graphs.  All essays written in the college are word-processed, and extensive use is made of e-mail.

Students arriving at the College with little or no previous exposure to computers are given intensive instruction during their first months.

Outdoor

The College has a large collection of skis, kayaks, climbing equipment, camping gear, and other outdoor equipment.  All students are encouraged to get out into the local environment whenever possible.

Photography and Video

The College has a small darkroom for black and white photography, several high quality cameras, video cameras and editing equipment, and facilities for digital photography and image processing.

Theatre

As well as the main auditorium, which is used for musical performances and various international shows, the College also has a multi-purpose Arts Centre that is equipped with theatre lighting and a stage area.  Several formal theatre productions are staged here each year.
