Extra-Academic Activities

The extra-academic programme has 4 main components: Monday service, Leirskule service, campus responsibilities and activities. This is a part of the IB Diploma programme known as CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) and has equal status to the academic programme.

Monday Service
On Monday afternoons all students and staff are engaged in community service. This can take various forms. For example: Running activities for children in the local schools, working with clients in the Haugland Rehabilitation Centre, editing the school magazine or yearbook, maintaining the College computer network, caring for the College environment, organising campaigns on campus, visiting elderly people, working with mentally challenged people or organising the weekly "world today" programme. Leirskule Service
During the summer months the College runs a camp school (Leirskule in Norwegian) for groups of local children. Students lead the afternoon and evening programme of the leirskule. During the first year all students will receive training to prepare them to be instructors in one aspect of the programme: rock climbing, kayaking, snorkelling, mountain biking, games, cultural sharing, theatre, swimming. Campus Responsibilities
All students must take a campus responsibility connected to daily living on campus. This can be done in many ways for example, Biology lab assistant, compost care, sound system, auditorium crew or library assistant.

Activities
There are many activities at the College: many are staff led, and students lead others. Activities require varying levels of commitment. This year's activities include rock-climbing, kayaking, swimming, discussion groups, modern dance, choir and orchestra.
